Clase Azul is a tequila brand that is synonymous with luxury, releasing a range of expressions that come housed in highly collectible handmade ceramic decanters. The latest is a collaboration with Mexican artist Eduardo Sarabia, and the liquid within this beautiful bottle is a blend of blanco and aged tequilas that were matured in some unusual casks.

Clase Azul master distiller Viridiana Tinoco selected three different liquids to blend together for this new release—unaged blanco tequila, añejo tequila aged in Russian oak barrels, and añejo tequila aged in amontillado sherry casks (this blend of aged and unaged liquid classifies it as a joven tequila). “With this tequila I wanted to represent the artist’s expertise” said Tinoco in a statement. “Eduardo’s family left Mexico for the United States and he grew up in Los Angeles and spent part of his youth in Russia, but in the end he returned to the land of his forebears and came to Mexico to create his work and share it with the world.” Official tasting notes describe tangerine peel and walnut on the nose, followed by agave nectar, spearmint, and ripe tangerine on the palate.

Sarabia’s work has been shown around the world in museums including the Dallas Contemporary, Málaga Contemporary Art Center, and Museo Tamayo in Mexico City. He created two versions of the decanter for this limited release—”Dorado,” which uses 24-karat gold to highlight the design elements, and “Color,” which has splashes of green and red along with gold in its design scheme. Each decanter is decorated with the same artwork—picks, spades and a two peso coin from Sarabia’s birth year on the front, and drawings of a parrot, rooster, and she-goat goat on the back inspired by the folk art of Sinoloa where Sarabia’s family is from.

Clase Azul Tequila Edición Limitada x Eduardo Sarabia is available now exclusively at Clase Azul Boutiques, with just 450 bottles available priced at $5,300, and you can find the rest of the lineup available to purchase from ReserveBar.
