Video games which we often find free of cost can be even more expensive. Thanks to the increasing number of online gamers and other gamers in the film, the cost has often remained at the higher side for many games. The fact is some game’s creation budget is more than any Hollywood film. Yes, you heard it right, we have several video games that cost more than 500 million dollars. Well, it would be interesting to enlist some of the most expensive video games as under, have a look and let me know what’s your take on it:


One of the most expensive games to play is Destiny, which was created at a whopping cost of $500 million. If you further break down the cost, around 140 million USD has been invested for its development claimed the leaked contract between the company (Activision) and the developer (Bungie), while the rest of the amount was invested for things like marketing, distribution, paying for royalties and so on. To make a note, one of the most expensive films to be made in Hollywood of a similar genre was “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, which cost not more than 300 million USD.

Grand Theft Auto V

The other in the list to be among the most expensive video game is 265 million USD. The cost of development was around 137 million USD, while the rest of the amount was meant for marketing, distribution, and royalties. This video game also bagged the seven Guinness World Records in the year 2013, which included getting the best-selling action-adventure video game in 24 hours, and best-selling video game in 24 hours along with getting the fastest video game to gross $1 billion.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

One of the most expensive video games includes the other called “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” which happens to be the first-person shooter, which was released in 2009. This will be the sixth installment of the series, and it remains the sequel to the video game “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.” Make sure you do not allow the naming convention to fool you. As per the leading newspaper LA Times, “Call of Duty” did cost around 50 million USD to produce. While adding up the marketing expenses, along with the production and distribution costs, the launch budget was to cost you around $200 million.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

The other in this list is Star Wars: The Old Republic that costs around 200 million USD. It was released in 2011 and it did cost that huge at that time claimed the analysts. At that point in time, the game has remained the most expensive video game ever produced claimed the media reports. The game at that time used to cost you around $60 while the users have to pay $15 a month as the subscription fees for playing the same.
