Storm Wreaks Havoc, Cancels Airshow at McConnell Air Force Base

As many as 10 people were injured, including six US service members, when a wild storm hit the McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas on Sunday, August 25, forcing the cancellation of the Frontiers in Flight Air Show.

Footage from the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS) shows flipped tents and debris scattered throughout the McConnell Air Force Base, outside Wichita, after the microburst hit.

The McConnell Air Force Base announced the cancellation of the air show on Sunday morning, saying “a slow-moving storm brought wind gusts in excess of 50mph to the McConnell flightline. Because of damage to services, we are unable to execute a safe airshow.”

The pyrotechnics planned for the airshow were detonated by McConnell
